Welding Engineer – Heavy Fabrication

Our client is a Houston-based heavy fabrication contractor producing pressure vessels, heat exchangers, structural steel assemblies, and piping spools for major refineries, petrochemical plants, and power generation facilities. The shop holds ASME Section VIII and AWS D1.1 certifications and regularly performs work to ASME B31.3 piping code.

As Welding Engineer you will develop, qualify, and maintain WPS and PQR documentation to ASME, AWS, and API standards, oversee welder qualification testing and maintain CWR records, investigate and resolve weld defects and NCRs, support NDE program coordination (RT, UT, MT, PT), and drive continuous improvement in weld quality and productivity through process optimization and welder training.

The role offers significant technical challenge, stable backlog driven by downstream energy capital investment, and strong compensation commensurate with the specialized skill set required.

Requirements

  • BS in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science preferred; equivalent trade experience considered
  • 5+ years of welding engineering experience in a heavy industrial or pressure equipment fabrication environment
  • AWS CWI certification required; CWE or PE licensure a strong plus
  • Deep knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and ASME B31.3 code requirements
  • Experience with NDE method qualification and Level II NDE technician coordination
